Figurenotes software – music notation made simple at the touch of a button!

Drake Music Scotland has created a unique software version of Figurenotes which was unveiled at the UK’s first Figurenotes Conference on Friday 26 November.

Granted exclusive rights by Finnish Figurenotes creators Kaarlo Uusitalo and Markku Kaikkonen to develop software based on the notation system used at the Resonaari Music Centre in Helsinki, Drake Music Scotland presented the prototype at the City Halls Glasgow to a large audience of music educators from Scotland and beyond.

Based on the Figurenotes system which has a proven track record in teaching people with learning difficulties to play and read music, the easy-to-use application will enable quick and simple access to:

creating music in the Figurenotes symbol notation composing and arranging parts
listening to your music via a playback tool

Drake Music Scotland’s Creative Scotland-funded project to introduce Figurenotes and pilot the software has been a success for pupils with learning disabilities and autism in SEN schools and also in mainstream music classrooms. Teachers have found that it makes it possible for some pupils to read music who would never have succeeded before and accelerates the process for many others.

Furthermore, the transfer of the music from paper to electronic files will make it easy to distribute and share music for people to practise at home, play together and disseminate around the world!

Figurenotes software will be released to the general public in spring 2011.
