Case Study – Carronhill School

Over the last 3 years, Drake Music Scotland has been working with 5 special schools in Aberdeenshire including Carronhill in Stonehaven.   Our specialist musician Abigail Sinar has been delivering group and 1:1 tuition using a range of inclusive music technologies and traditional musical instruments using Figurenotes.  At the end of year, the pupils have an opportunity to showcase their musical skills and gain confidence and self esteem by taking part in special joint concert involving all schools at Haddo House.

In addition, as a result of our work in Carronhill , three pupils have sat National 3 performance Units (part of the Scottish Qualification Authority SCQF exams).

Before Drake Music Scotland’s projects started in Carronhill, the pupils hadn’t read sheet music or played independently before. These pupils now visit the local mainstream secondary school, Mackie Academy, for integrated music lessons and orchestra rehearsals, and next year will continue working towards a National 4 qualification.
