‘Letting the Light in’ by Sarah Lianne Lewis wins RPS Award

Sarah Lianne Lewis holding Royal Philharmonic Society Award

Congratulations!

Letting the Light In – by Sarah Lianne Lewis won a prestigious Royal Philharmonic Award for Chamber Composition at a recent Award Ceremony at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. This beautiful piece written for prepared piano was part of our Beyond Borders project in collaboration with Tŷ Cerdd and NMC Recordings.

Here is what the RPS Awards had to say about the piece ” ‘letting the light in is a reflection on new motherhood by Welsh composer Sarah Lianne Lewis: on navigating change, on balancing a career with caregiving, and on the impact this had on her disability. Deftly performed by Siwan Rhys, the subtle preparation in this solo piano piece creates a woozy, dreamy effect. Chinks of light welcome in a new day’. ”

Other members of the collaboration were also recognised for their work including Siwan Rhys (Young Artist Category) and NMC Recordings (Gamechanger Award)
