Led by the ambitions of disabled artists, Drake Music Scotland works with composers, music creators, ensembles and performers to change music for good. We believe amplifying voices, raising visibility and providing support to achieve artistic and musical ambitions is essential for disabled artists to thrive. We are dedicated to developing instruments, repertoire and accessible technology and we champion new ways to engage in creative activity.
Our innovative use of accessible music notation and tools for learning provides agency and control over the creative process so disabled learners can develop skills for self-expression while artists and musicians can be in charge of their own artistic careers.
We strive to be accessible to as many people as possible. This website has been built with accessibility as a key component, considering a wide range of access needs. This has included liaising directly and implementing the advice of a disabled access specialist, as well as liaising with a range of people with a variety of access requirements. If you have any accessibility concerns or come across any barriers in accessing this website, please feel free to contact us.
CREATE is our disabled artist-led programme working with artists, composers, music creators and ensembles to develop creative work in partnership with mainstream arts and music organisations leading to public performances.
The LEARN programme takes place in special schools and local authorities throughout Scotland, introducing young people to playing musical instruments and developing their skills, with many benefits in terms of attention and concentration, co-ordination, confidence and self-esteem.
