Drake participant Chris Jacquin has been using technology developed not for musicians but for… skydivers!
The Conceptus Bite Switch was originally created in the US to enable skydiving photographers to operate cameras hands-free however Drake Music Scotland Music Technology Officer Rick Bamford recognised its potential to control music software for musicians with disabilities.
Talented musician and composer Chris uses the bite switch (see image below) to write and play music with a greater degree of control than other interfaces have allowed him in the past.
As Rick Bamford explains “The bite switch enables Chris to take the practice of rhythmic phrasing in music to another level and we are all waiting to see how he has faired in his music exam. Being there on the day, it was a privilege to see such a level of musicianship, commitment and taking command of a new piece of technology !”
