Drake Music Scotland has launched a new Junior Digital Orchestra for teenage musicians with disabilities.
The Junior Digital Orchestra began rehearsals in January 2017 in response to demand from our teenage musicians who had watched our Digital Orchestra for young musicians aged 18-29 and wanted to be part of an orchestra too!
This short video gives a taster of some of the inclusive music technologies the teenagers play – including Eyegaze software which allows our musicians to play music apps with their eye movements and Wowee speakers which vibrate and help hearing impaired musicians to “hear” themselves play.
As well as providing opportunities for disabled teenagers to develop their music skills and increase their confidence from taking part in public performance, we hope this project will encourage members to progress on to our senior Digital Orchestra for 18-29 year olds in the future.
We are extremely grateful to Trefoil for their support of this project.
