Working with Sir James MacMillan

Drake Music Scotland is delighted to be working with our Patron and eminent Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan and The Cumnock Tryst Festival.

Over the past year, we have been planning a collaboration with Sir James and his Cumnock Tryst Festival which culminated in the Songs and Compositions performance in October with pupils with additional support needs from East Ayrshire Schools.

Sir James MacMillan was fully involved with the creative and rehearsal sessions with pupils helping to shape their final composition in workshops led by our Associate Musician Matilda Brown. He also played piano as part of the inclusive ensemble for the performance that included musicians from the Hebrides Ensemble and pupils using inclusive music technology such as Soundbeams and iPads.

We look forward to developing this partnership with Sir James MacMillan with a new commission for the 2016 Cumnock Tryst Festival which will involve both young people and adults with disabilities in East Ayrshire.
